Answering Life’s Biggest Question in Four Words

Many of you have read or at least have heard of the book, The Purpose-Driven Life, by Rick Warren. It was originally released back in 2003. The Purpose-Driven Life is a faith-based publication, but was wildly successful even in the secular market. The subtitle is What on Earth Am I Here For? This is a question that has plagued mankind for thousands of years. It’s the question of all questions. From religious figures to atheists to agnostics and everyone in between, people have tried to answer “what’s the point of this life?” Even with the magnitude of this inquiry, Rick Warren manages to answer it in the very first line of the book – in only four words.

It’s not about you.

The book could have been only one page long. However, according to Amazon the latest revised edition (2013) of The Purpose-Driven Life is 377 pages. Obviously, Rick Warren managed to expound on this topic in more than just four words. Here’s the bottom line, you cannot find purpose within yourselves. True fulfillment and purpose are found in impacting other people. In Repurposed University, we call this your “who” – finding and defining your “who” is one of the most important steps of the Repurposed process.

Unfortunately, retirement is sold as a permanent vacation where you can finally step away from the rigors of a job and focus on yourself. We’re told, indirectly, the path to true happiness and fulfillment is found within ourselves. It’s a lie.
